Dedicated to the balanced discussion of global warming
FoxNews – April 29, 2008
I just wrote an article where I discussed that William Gray was being vilified for his comments and stance on global warming. Now I read that his employer, is cutting back on his funding. Dr. Gray says that this is due to his beliefs and accused the school of “capitulation” to the forces of global warming.
I don’t know what Colorado State University has as its true goals in this move. It is almost always possible to assume that hidden motives are in play when it comes to money and quite often the motives are honorable. However in the words of Kurt Cobain:
“Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you”
This is not an obituary of Dr. Fred Singer or Dr. William Gray, even though the title of this article may lead you to believe that. Dr. Gray is the Professor of Atmospheric Science, Head of the Tropical Meteorology Project at Colorado State and is the noted writer of the hurricane forecast every year. Dr. Singer is currently the Director and President of The Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP).
I am writing this article simply because I am amazed at the bitterness that is delivered upon these two men.
A search for Dr. Singer and Dr. Gray on RealClimate.org reveals an amazing amount of sarcasm and lack of respect for the two gentlemen. Why? Well, they obviously don’t agree with many of the writers of RealClimate. The sad thing is that they definitely have the credentials to disagree and still command respect.READ MORE
The season for hurricanes is not over yet but we only have a few more weeks of "prime time" left. So far, 2007 is shaping up to be the lowest number of hurricanes since 1977.
While this may seem significant, it isn’t. The data for tracking this stuff is unbelievably short and we simply do not have enough data to say anything of significance about the fact that it was so low. On other sites, you may see discussion that the trend is still going up but even that isn’t significant because we have so little data. If we were doing a good count since 1900, then I would pay attention to the trend but that isn’t the case. We only have about 40 years of data it is relatively meaningless.READ MORE

Dr. Gray is one of the most quoted scientists out there proclaiming that some climatologists have made a mistake that we are approaching a tipping point for dramatic climate change. Some people then automatically label him as a nut or a kook but that is unfair. This man has spent his lifetime studying violent weather and for years was considered to be among the foremost scientists on that issue. Many still give him that honor.
Dr. Gray is saying that it is ocean currents that are changing the temperature in the atmosphere and that we are on the verge of a reversal that would leave the weather cooler. This flies in the face of many other theories and for that reason we need to listen to what this man has to say, understand it, and see if it makes sense.READ MORE

This is actually an AP story that was run by myway. In this story, a top hurricane forecaster has called the former Vice President of the US “a gross alarmist”. While I am not qualified to make a such a strong statement, I do think that this is evidence of my position. My position is that we don’t know. When top scientists such as Dr. Gray have such an obviously different opinion than other top scientists, then we don’t have a consensus. If we do not have a consensus then the politicians shouldn’t get involved. Instead, let’s spend time and effort at figuring this out.READ MORE

This is a commentary article about Al Gore, his recent accolades for “An Inconvenient Truth”, and some of the background science of global climate change. It is a very good read and I encourage my readers to click through to the source article (especially since the title is quite close to the URL of my blog).
It is interesting that the author tries to draw a correlation between the Academy Awards that Mr. Gore received and the timing of the IPCC report. I don’t think that this is anything but coincidence and all of my research indicates that the two are not tied together. We know that the Academy Awards are always held the same time of the year and it appears that the IPCC was always trying to put their release out at that time of the year. It does not appear that Mr. Gore’s very well made documentary had anything to do with it.READ MORE
