Reuters – January 23. 2008
What in the world is going on here?!?!?! Do we understand so little about our climate and environment that we can’t even figure out for sure if hurricanes are going to be less frequent or more frequent with global warming? I repeat my call for more effort to truly understand our climate before we spend trillions of dollars to try and change the environment – a sum that will likely cause the death of thousands of people.
This also flies directly into the face of former Vice President Al Gore and his film “An Inconvenient Truth” perhaps Mr. Gore should consider giving back his Nobel since one of his strongest statements and most concerning images in the movie was the certainty that hurricanes would increase and cause more catastrophes such as New Orleans. BBC News – November 12, 2007
If you are a global warming skeptic (or if you deal with one regularly), you need to read this article on BBC. It covers a claimed top ten reasons that skeptics likely cite regarding global warming and then gives a short reason why the excuse is not valid. Read more... This is the fifth and final installment of a 5 part series reviewing the comments of the Science and Public Policy Institute (SPPI) in regards to “An Inconvenient Truth” (AIT). I have already covered the 35 points in previous points so this one is strictly my thoughts and comments.

You can read Part 2 of 5 here.
You can read Part 3 of 5 here.
You can read Part 4 of 5 here.
So how did SPPI fair? Personally, I wish they would have been a bit more conservative in their claims. Several times they dinged Mr. Gore twice (or three times) for the same basic error. I tend to write this off as being over-zealous and perhaps trying to get a bigger number for the headline. Read more... (530 words, estimated 2:07 mins reading time)

ERROR 27 – Shame on Mr. Gore for citing this example! He is trying to link malaria with global warming. There were many malaria outbreaks in Nairobi prior to human induced global warming could be a factor. Mr. Gore’s statements here are pure sham and is probably the biggest reason that I dislike this film as a documentary. Read more... (492 words, estimated 1:58 mins reading time)

ERROR 18 – I can’t find evidence for SPPI’s statement that the Arctic has increased decreased in temperature 1 deg C in the last 60 years. SPPI falls victim here to the common Gore affliction of pointing out individual instances of information (ice bound ships) and assuming that this is conclusive data. I have called AIT out on this and I need to do the same with SPPI. Unless they can point to a reference for the temperature increase, I need to call this one spin. Read more... ERROR 10 – Actually, SPPI isn’t tough enough on AIT on this one. Mr. Gore says that 350ppm of CO2 is all that keeps a mile of ice off of the top of Cleveland, Detroit, and New York. The last time that happened was 2 million years ago during the Pleistocene era and Mr. Gore’s data doesn’t extend that far back so therefore he is making an unsubstantiated claim. Read more... Several days ago, I posted about RealClimate.org’s defense of the 9 ‘mistakes’ that a British court found in “An Inconvenient Truth” (AIT). My review was not well regarded by many at RealClimate as they defended their defense. My point at the time was that extremism is bad in all ways. Even if you think that the world is going to end due to human induced global warming, you must be able to see spin for what it is and confront it.
Conversely, if you think that all this global warming conversation is hooey, you still should not say that everything out of Mr. Gore’s mouth is biased and wrong. We need to evaluate each claim on its own and seriously discuss the viable issues. Read more... (887 words, estimated 3:33 mins reading time)

Time – October 17, 2007
I am not sure what inference can be drawn from this study but I do find it interesting. The study analyzes the search patterns of words on the Internet that relate to the topic of global warming. Without a doubt, this activity has fallen in the past few months but as with all trends, the causality is still in question. Read more... (484 words, 1 image, estimated 1:56 mins reading time)

RealClimate – October 15, 2007
I have suggested that my readers visit RealClimate before as I consider it a fairly well written site. The site has contributions from many people that study the weather for a living (as authors and as commenters) and so they tend to really dig into the scientific details. You can learn a lot from reading the site and the comments are typically quite insightful. They have a direct link to IPCC so they are fairly staunch defenders of that organization and so sometimes they are not quite fair and balanced. They also tend to love their computer models, a devotion that I don’t share. Read more... (1026 words, estimated 4:06 mins reading time)

WorldNetDaily – October 12, 2007
I don’t have a lot of good things to say about Laurie David. I have complained about her before on this site (see here). Her children’s book is full of non-truths and she is the producer of “An Inconvenient Truth” which is also filled with non-truths.
Evidently, Ms. Fretwell is also upset by the non-truths in Ms. David’s book and took a different tact from mine. She wrote a child’s book on the subject! I haven’t had the opportunity to read this book yet but I wanted to point it out to my readers that still have an open mind on this subject. Ms. Fretwell appears to want to give facts to our children rather than the propaganda that Mr. Gore and Ms. David profess. Read more... (374 words, estimated 1:30 mins reading time)
