This article discusses what several companies are doing to “get green”. The big question here is if they are doing this because they believe in global warming or are they doing this because they think it is good for business.
Duke Energy Corp. is seeking a federal cap on carbon-dioxide emissions at the same time the company is pushing for state approval to build two coal plants at its Cliffside facility in North Carolina.
Ten major companies, including Charlotte-based Duke (NYSE:DUK), are partnering with environmental groups to call for a nationwide limit on carbon-dioxide emissions that would lead to reductions of 10 to 30 percent over the next 15 years, according to The New York Times.

This is an interesting article that says that we don’t truly understand the Global Warming phenomenon. The science in this article is very interesting, especially the following parts:
But did anyone tell you that in east Antarctica the Adélie penguins and Cape petrels are turning up at their spring nesting sites around nine days later than they did 50 years ago? While sea-ice has diminished in the Arctic since 1978, it has grown by 8% in the Southern Ocean
So one awkward question you can ask, when you’re forking out those extra taxes for climate change, is “Why is east Antarctica getting colder?” It makes no sense at all if carbon dioxide is driving global warming.

This is an extremely strong article that basically says the models that some scientists are using to predict doom and gloom are not complete or not correct. Interesting that this report comes out only days after IPCC report gave a 90% chance that humans are causing global warming.
I don’t understand how he can say that the models are not exact and then the global population is supposed to take these same models, assume the sky is falling, and spend billions of dollars trying to correct it.READ MORE

This is a very good article that answers the basic scientific question of how we know the source of excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The simple testing is very similar to the way that archeologists can find the age of ancient ruins – they do carbon testing. Since the carbon in fossil fuels has depleted its supply of C14, and the volume of CO2 in the atomosphere is increasing in non-C14 amounts, we can assume that it did not come from recent sources.READ MORE

This is a very powerful article (opinion) that says that there is no reason for nations to spend huge amounts of money on global warming. It quotes Canada’s leader (who is struggling to make environmental commitments) as saying it is actually a socialistic scheme of wealth redistribution.
Canada’s new leader is taking heat over an old letter saying Kyoto was a “socialist scheme” to redistribute wealth on a global scale.
Harper described the Kyoto Protocol as “a socialist scheme to suck money out of wealth-producing nations.” He voiced his support for the “campaign to block the job-killing, economy-destroying Kyoto accord,” an agreement he said was “based on tentative and contradictory scientific evidence about climate trends.”
Petition Project – January 1998
This article is states that the effects of CO2 on the climate are negligible if they exist at all. It contends that CO2 levels are definitely increasing but that their effect does not compare to other factors including random climate variation and the influence of the sun.
This petition project was created so that scientists could express their concern regarding the conclusions of the Kyoto agreements. It was supposedly “signed” by 17,000 scientists that questioned the conclusion of the politicians and scientists that gathered at Kyoto.READ MORE

This is an article (or maybe should be called a statement) from several scientific bodies proclaiming that the earth is getting warmer and it is man-made pollutants that are causing the problem.
…there is now strong evidence that significant global warming is occurring1. The evidence comes from direct measurements of rising surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures and from phenomena such as increases in average global sea levels, retreating glaciers, and changes to many physical and biological systems. It is likely that most of the warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities (IPCC 2001)2. This warming has already led to changes in the Earth’s climate.
…human activities are now causing atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases – including carbon dioxide, methane, tropospheric ozone, and nitrous oxide – to rise well above pre-industrial levels. Carbon dioxide levels have increased from 280 ppm in 1750 to over 375 ppm today – higher than any previous levels that can be reliably measured (i.e. in the last 420,000 years). Increasing greenhouse gases are causing temperatures to rise; the Earth’s surface warmed by approximately 0.6 centigrade degrees over the twentieth century.
This is an interesting analysis. The article basically says that we are foolish to be focusing on CO2 as a potential for the greenhouse gas effect for global warming. Rather, we should be focused on methane. While I am not sure that I totally by into the suggestion that the solution of this problem is that the human race should become vegetarians, the article does point out many good points. If this article is true, why are we spending billions of dollars to reduce CO2 emissions if it is not the true culprit?READ MORE
Wikipedia is always a good source of information on technical items needing a simple explanation. In this article we learn about the carbon cycle and its potential influences on the climate.
The cycle is usually thought of as four major reservoirs of carbon interconnected by pathways of exchange. The reservoirs are the atmosphere, the terrestrial biosphere (which usually includes freshwater systems and non-living organic material, such as soil carbon), the oceans (which includes dissolved inorganic carbon and living and non-living marine biota), and the sediments (which includes fossil fuels). The annual movements of carbon, the carbon exchanges between reservoirs, occur because of various chemical, physical, geological, and biological processes. The ocean contains the largest active pool of carbon near the surface of the Earth, but the deep ocean part of this pool does not rapidly exchange with the atmosphere.
