Dedicated to the balanced discussion of global warming
Steve McIntyre of Climate Audit(one of the MMs of the Climategate emails) recently published an analysis and history of the “trick” that was accomplished and discussed in the “stolen” emails from the CRU of East Anglia. I encourage you to jump over to Steve’s article to read the full analysis but I would like to include a few paragraphs here in the hope that you will want more information that Steve supplies.
Much recent attention has been paid to the email about the “trick” and the effort to “hide the decline”. Climate scientists have complained that this email has been taken “out of context”. In this case, I’m not sure that it’s in their interests that this email be placed in context because the context leads right back to a meeting of IPCC authors in Tanzania, raising serious questions about the role of IPCC itself in “hiding the decline” in the Briffa reconstruction.
This is absolutely unbelievable. It now appears that Mr. Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and Nobel prize winner for his theories on global warming, may be stepping back from some of his strong beliefs.
“Over the years I have been among those who focused most of all on CO2, and I think that’s still justified,” Gore told Newsweek . “But a comprehensive plan to solve the climate crisis has to widen the focus to encompass strategies for all” of the greenhouse culprits identified in the Nasa study.”READ MORE
I first saw this on Net-Cool which is a great site to subscribe to for finding really interesting things on the web.
This movie explains some of the reasons of concern for monitoring the increase in temperatures that we have felt since the 1960s. It is very well done and enjoyable to watch. Unlike An Inconvenient Truth, it admits that this is not pure imagery but some CGI has been done.
If you can handle the bandwidth, you will see better graphics here rather than watching the embedded YouTube video below.
Dilbert and his boss once again point out the hypocrisy of life. In this case it is due to trying to be environmentally good.
It is hard to be good. Sorry, Mr. Gore, but it is true. Here are a few inconvenient facts:
I have talked about RealClimate.org many times in the past. In general, the gentlemen over there are pretty smart but they do tend to be one-sided in their analysis. They consistently take the side of “global warming is caused by humans” and they don’t treat others with much respect.
I started questioning their partisanship when they lashed out at the UK judge that said that “An Inconvenient Truth” was not 100% factual. They didn’t like me calling them out on that. They then spiked some of my comments on their site when degraded scientific discussion to a challenge of who has a bigger wallet.READ MORE
I was about to write about the new report by the US Administration titled “Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States” and was starting my research. I was happy to find that Climate Skeptic had already started to review the document. I may add some thoughts on a future post but for now I will recreate some of his statements here and point you to that site.
I guess I am doing a review of the review! But I have done that before and it seems to be popular and provides a service to my readers.
Here is a rather long video that was released by the US Administration:READ MORE
I am shocked and dismayed! (Not really – just being a bit sarcastic and melodramatic)
One of the foundations of predicting the climate is that we have some idea of how water moves around the planet. That water can be in the form of water vapor or liquid water that is flowing in streams, lakes and the oceans. Since the Earth is approximately 2/3 water and water vapor is the single largest greenhouse gas, the way it acts is very important for understanding climate and predicting the future of climate.READ MORE
Today is World Malaria Day. While this site is dedicated to global warming issues, many have said the the increase in global warming will cause an increase in malaria deaths. While it may be true that warmer regions will allow a greater infestation of malaria carrying insects, the conclusion that there will be more deaths is preposterous!
Malaria is one of the easiest to control diseases. Unfortunately, it tends to occur in areas that are poverty stricken so the simple measures that can prevent outbreaks don’t get taken care. Rather than cost the economy in the US billions of dollars in cap and trade, we could eradicate malaria at a fraction of the cost. This is one of the reasons that I contend that fighting global warming using inefficient methods actually inadvertantly causes the deaths of thousands.READ MORE
There is a new site on the Internet that may be interesting to you. Check out Climate Depot. It is being run by Marc Morano who used to be the PR aide to the Republican minority leader of the US Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee.
Mr. Morano is a bit controversial. Mr. Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, does not seem to like him too much. I guess that is okay since I have been a pretty big critic of the exaggerations of Mr. Gore myself and I even increased the number of “apparent falsehoods” that he told in his award winning movie “An Inconvenient Truth“. I doubt if Mr. Gore would take his picture with me either even though I have defended him at least once.READ MORE
I would never have expected so much discussion regarding George Will when it comes to global warming. While he is incredibly intelligent, he is hardly a person that one would describe as being an expert at global warming. It is amazing that when this political commenter says, “Real calamities take our minds off hypothetical ones. Besides, according to the U.N. World Meteorological Organization, there has been no recorded global warming for more than a decade, or one-third of the span since the global cooling scare.” and the comment results in multiple articles and arguments from scientists and laypersons about how he is wrong.READ MORE
