"It is very dangerous to the health of you and your children to live in a home or enter a room where a CFL (compact fluorescent) bulb has broken. That danger is minimized if you have had the room cleaned by a hazardous waste team. What is the problem? Mercury. "

They are not as exactly as dangerous as they are cracked up to be, and you certainly don't need a hazardous waste team to clean it up.

All you need is the proper procedure.

Here is the Snopes article on this, which includes the EPA's recommended cleanup procedure:

Certainly a pain in the arse to clean up, but as far as turning one's home into a toxic waste site, not quite.

I will admit, however, that I absolutely despise florescent lights. Hate them, I do. I despise them for many reasons, the main one being the quality of the light. Florescent lights are harsh, unnatural, and to top it all off they give me headaches. Incandescent lights are softer, warmer, more natural like candle or lamp light.

If the U.S. government should dare to ban incandescent lights, I'll buy them by the cases and fill up every cupboard, shed, and spare closet with them!

In fact, I would switch to candles and oil lamps like the old days before I would use florescent. Which means fossil fuels to supply the paraffin, and whaling to supply the oil.

Tree huggers won't like that.
