[...] One of the largest influencers of the climates of various areas of the world is the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt. Mr. Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and winner of the Nobel Peace Price, even described this huge current in his movie An Inconvenient Truth. He discussed what would happen if the this conveyor belt would stop and then “alluded” to Greenland being the source of freshwater that could make that happen. There was even a movie (Day After Tomorrow) that described the world where this flow would stop (a movie that Mr. Gore borrowed a CGI clip from).
Barbara - Thank you for your comment and I appreciate your fervor. However, I don't think the CGI portion included ice breaking off. There is no mistaking the CGI reel from actual because, frankly, it isn't that good of work. The lighting isn't right and the depth of colors on the ice are not full enough. There was no question in my mind when I first saw the film that this was CGI and I didn't give it a second thought. There are numerous CGI and cartoon effects in the film that Gore uses to make his plea, this one really isn't any different than the others.

Your point on the falling ice is relevant though. Most likely that footage was taken from one of a dozen locations around the world where ice breaks off all the time. Mr. Gore implies that this break is unusual and is being caused by global warming, when that is simply not true. Even in the coldest of summers, the ice breaks off the edge of the glaciers. It is even a frequent attraction of cruise ships that go along Alaska.

As your watching the footage he is stating that they are flying over the area watching the ice break off. It's an outright lie, he never flew over the glacier because what we were watching didn't exist. The Nobel Prize committee should be ashamed of themselves for dishonoring prize with this preposterous piece of fiction, while cheating a truly deserving person like Irena.

I just watched the film this evening (it was being shown on one of the cable movie networks). I stuck around and watched the credits this time and the movie clearly gives credit to the movie. This is a non-issue. There is plenty of animation in the movie that one shouldn't condemn the movie because of this animation also.

If you watch the video though, there is no question it was done with CGI technology. That was obvious from the beginning. That he took it from another film doesn't really change anything and I assume he took care of the legal and financial repercussions of that.

Seems pretty straight forward to me. Whether or not he listed TDAT in the credits is a copyright (and plagiarism) issue. If he's putting cartoons in the movie knowing that people will think it's real and he stays quiet about it and lets people think it's real, then he's lying to the audience. But as you note in your post, it's just one more on the pile.
