Uniting to fight warming U.N. chief enlists governor’s help in stemming climate change

San Francisco Chronicle – July 28, 2007

Some say that UN Sec.-Gen. Ban Ki-moon is trying to create a new world order and drag down the US economic dominance by actively talking about global warming and its impact on the world. I don’t think that he is that nefarious and simply think that he is discussing a very important issue. He should keep this up! While he is at it, I do wish he would discuss other important issues that should be on the mind of every citizen of the world (see my posts here: Africa: Live Earth Vs. Africa and VIEW: Live earth, deaf to reality).

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday toured a San Jose firm that makes energy-saving devices, after which the global diplomat invited the governor to an international conference of government leaders to talk about California’s efforts to fight global warming.

“Gov. Schwarzenegger has demonstrated what a difference leadership can make,” Ban said during a news conference at Echelon Corp., which has developed networking devices to help homes, businesses and municipalities use less electricity.

“The science is now clear. The Earth warming is beyond debate,” Ban said. While there are new technologies that are already available to limit global warming, “what’s missing is political will and political leadership,” he said.

For example, when Ban raised the issue of climate change with President Bush in January, the president did not respond at all, Ban said. But that has changed since June and Ban is hopeful that the United States will also engage in the debate about how to solve the problem of global warming.

Ban plans to hold a special meeting of leaders of nations on Sept. 24 to address global warming as a challenge that all nations should embrace, and follow up with negotiations on how to solve that problem in separate meetings in December, he said.

  1. You should highlight your (and mine) disagreement with: The science is now clear. The Earth warming is beyond debate. The science is not settled.
