Thanks for posting your comment on www.youmaybegreen.com. I enjoyed reading through your blog and appreciate your efforts to provide a balanced view on Climate Change.

Your comment inspired a blog about some of the criticisms surfacing about the Live Earth event and the pledges it advocates. Check out To the Critics of Live Earth to read more. In short, I kindly disagree with your comments about the Live Earth Pledge. Is it feasible to cut global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries in time for the next generation to inherit the earth? And is it true that doing so would cause extreme hardship impact millions of lives globally? Who really knows? I’m not qualified to answer any of these questions and I think that there are few people that truly are! 90% seems like an ambitious goal, but I don’t see anything wrong with that. So what if we don’t achieve 90%! Would 50% be so bad? I think exceptional people like Gore, or Lance Armstrong, for example, are where they are today not because they set Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time Specific Goals, but because they shoot for the stars! In my opinion SMART goals are for things like diets not inspiring social change!

The world is being destroyed by the sins of mankind! If not for the Sin of Man this would be a paradise. Because of the Sin Of Man we must sacrifice. We must all sacrafice. And today we are going to sacrafice your way of life and the entire technological world. We will sacrafice Air conditioning and Hot meals. We will never ride in a vehicle again. We will not have light in our houses at night. We will not have electricity most of the day if at any time.

If we don't make these changes then the end of the world is nigh! Prepare For the endtimes.

Ha Ha. Just kidding. And people say evangleicals are the eschatologists. Nope! It is Al Gore who thinks these are the end times.

I suggest a better pledge - the concerned people should unplug their computers and leave to live in a cave in order to set an example .

There is one good news and one bad one .
The good news is that they will dramatically decrease their CO2 output as their life expectancy will decrease to somewhere between 30 - 40 years and collecting berries to survive doesn't need any sophisticated industry .
The bad news is that they will have to move much nearer to equator because the winters elsewhere are still rather unpleasant despite the global warming .

Being a scientist I am not concerned and am taking bets that latest 2050 there will be many important issues for mankind but CO2 concentration will not be one of them .

hi,

i dont have much knowledge in these kind of things, such as if the pledge is realistic or not.

one thing i do know however is the earth is slowly dying. it doesnt take a scientist to notice the drastic weather changes.

besides i've always been told to aim high so you'll at least end up somewhere close to your goal. you got to start somewhere, right? it's the optimistic side of me talking, really.

if you already denied the fact that it doesnt work, it'll never happen on your part. it's like the self fulfilling prophecy.

i believe the earth is slowly dying but i believe we can help it. i wanna leave a better earth for the future.

thanks for taking the time to post on my journal

Many thanks for the link to my site. I'm glad that my article may be beneficial, despite the difference in topic. I think SMART Goals are excellent in helping individuals reach their goals.

Best wishes with yours!
