<description>Interesting discussion on global warming and the deniers, not too long but didn&#039;t want to just post the whole thing.

<description>Okay, this&#039; a new one for me. So what are the various competing/complementary theories as to the cause of global warming?

Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, solar fluctuations, cosmic rays, ocean currents, or other factors (do you know any more?).

To me, it seems pretty straightforward with several competing theories - whichever makes predictions that turn out to be true are likely to be correct. Whereas theories which make predictions that fail must be wrong.

However, due in a large part to the perceived urgency of the threat of global warming (thanks a lot to manipulation of public panic) the greenhouse gases theory has already been accepted as fact and the other theories thrown out the window. Never mind that ocean currents and solar fluctuations could at least contribute to global warming, even if they are not the main cause of it.

And whatever happens in the next century, the proponents of reducing greenhouse gas emissions have got themselves covered: 0 liability, accountability and responsibility if they turn out to be wrong.
